The all new National Football Museum, which relocated to Urbis in Manchester’s city centre after relocating from Preston North End’s Deepdale stadium, approached Soft Floor UK with a brief to provide a grass effect soft floor mat to cover 12 square metres in the penalty shoot out simulator.
The flooring had to be easy to install and cut, to accommodate parts of the simulator system and floor sensors. We selected the obvious choice AstroTileâ„¢, which is a large 1 metre interlocking mat with extremely durable green grass effect surface. The AstroTileâ„¢ mat is a multi sports mat with a high-density EVA base to protect against falls.
The £8.5m museum features more than 140,000 objects and fills the entire Urbis building, with bosses expecting more than 350,000 visitors every year.
People travelled from far and wide to see the attraction’s big kick-off and said they were not left disappointed by the experience. The penalty shoot out simulator is a hot spot in the museum and is heavily used by children of all ages and abilities and even some aspiring adults re-living that dream!
